In the latter part of the previous year, specifically around mid-November, I decided to create The Blazer. The initial conception of the publication came about in late September, prompted by the rejection I faced from The Jacket regarding some writing I did for them. However, I must admit that this rejection served as a mere catalyst for an ironic setup, akin to a hypothetical villain arc or a tale of vengeance. The true impetus behind The Blazer's inception was my profound desire to engage with and enhance my local and broader community. My aim was to establish a platform that skillfully intertwined relievingly light-hearted satirical humor, and incisive social commentary. After reflecting upon my work across the ten released issues, I believe that I not only achieved but also exceeded this expectation admirably.
The Blazer is meant to be mildly offensive, as it seeks to satirize and sort of mock the superficial, conceited and snobbish aspects prevalent in both local and school media. Without the existence of such local and school media, The Blazer would lose its inherent artistic merit. The very name itself serves as a parody, The Blazer challenges and questions wokeness, truth, and identity.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have ever picked up a copy of The Blazer, found amusement in the Instagram content, or proudly brandished a button. Each and every one of you has played a pivotal role in contributing to this collective work of art, which resonates as a testament to our shared sense of community, and for that, thank you.
Love,
Editor-in-Chief
