As March drags on at BHS, you will find the predictable sights of stressed seniors refreshing their email for college decisions, and the army of Instagram clones spewing the same rhetoric. At The Blazer, we understand the pressure of reading 35 different paragraphs to decide who to vote for. To make your life easier, we condensed down the best candidates for you, using our totally unbiased opinion.
School Board Representative
While most folks view the world through rose-tinted glasses, Ari Kelley prefers heart-shaped ones. Both Ari and Jules Droz bring not just debating prowess, but also ideas for shaking up the school. While Jules and Ari advocate for more college counselors, Ari goes above and beyond with clear eyes and a full heart, they can’t lose, pushing for accessible mental health resources and gender-neutral restrooms. As for Rachel Roberts, Amber Safir, and Zamahra Winta Clark, they're content to sit back and see how listening to students pans out.
ASB President/Vice President
Choosing the Vice President is a no-brainer (Violet, obviously), but ASB President? That's where things get dicey. The candidates are: Tristan “TJ” Jesadavisut, Chiara Hyman, Ariana Yerovam, Zariyah King, Angel Rivera, and Jessica Hipona. When discussing the candidates for this election, a Blazer reporter states: "Jessica Hipona has more experience, drive, and really cool hair." The other (unimportant) candidates for Vice President are as follows: Joshua Swift-Rawal, Chloe Caldwell, Greta Graham, and Mariah Lillard-Richner.
Chief of Publicity
After some deep consideration at gunpoint from Lucia Rodriguez Gernstein, The Blazer has decided that out of all 16 runners for Chief of Publicity (Andreas Lukan, Ethan Goldstein, Benjamin Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Eli Pawlowski, Mario Barragan, Samaliya Manda, Rey Tse, Lucy Griffith, Benjamin Passmore, Chapy Milikit, Ulysses Rawitscher, and Benjamin Lazarus) that Lucia is the best choice for Chief of Publicity, as she is really funny and will totally be the best for the announcements position.
Chief of Service
Between Nell Harte, Amani Meleis, and Nunzio Burley, Amani has shown the most passion for the position, due to the fact that they were the only ones at the meet-and-greet.
Sophomore Class President & Vice President
Both the candidates Rigzin Gyaltsen and Taylor Reynaud are fighting for the same thing: a larger community. So we flipped a coin on who you should vote for and chose the one with a cooler name. Rigzin Gyaltsen and Emma Candler are the best choices for the incoming Sophomores, and are most likely to follow through with their promise of throwing mandatory social gatherings that you might get free pizza out of.
Junior Class President & Vice President
It’s a similar story as the Sophomore Class Presidents, however this time with a larger focus on more accessible college resources; but since there's more than two candidates; we return to the tactic every smart voter uses: choosing the ones with cooler names. Both Shavon and Adalilly have unique perspectives on how to truly make college career readiness accessible for the incoming Juniors, and are totally two of the best choices for Junior Class President.
Senior Class President & Vice President
Because whoever is voted for Class President is planning the prom, we must take aesthetics into account. Coming in with the best outfits and campaigns with the promise for college prep, Jayme Lawrence is the best choice for the incoming Seniors. If you're in AC and are looking for “more representation within the Berkeley High community”- whatever that means, Martin Maciel Metal would be your best bet. However, since both made the bold choice to go without a Vice, it's important we choose someone who seems the least attached to their friend, and Chang-Min Kung only mentioned their running mate’s name once in the official handbook, so she seems like a safe bet.
